Anastasia Giamali gave a full interview to Tasos Bimbisidis and the camera of the show “I love Sou Kou” on Sunday on ANT1. Among other things, the charming journalist referred to the discrimination she has experienced in the field due to her gender, the threatening messages, and the reasons why she tries not to be affected by them.
Specifically, Anastasia Giamali initially emphasized that “I am a woman and I had to prove my worth ten times more than male colleagues. On the road, I had to look back often, hold my keys in my hand, and run to get into my house. It is automatic for me to talk about injustice and to advocate for a society that includes all of us.”
“Obviously, I have experienced discrimination due to gender in my work. ‘Come on, the girl, what will she tell us now that she wants to do a serious political show.’ At the moment, the only female commentator on a news bulletin is Katia Makri on ANT1. Isn’t that indicative? We have female presenters, but we don’t have female commentators. There is always a man – a bright omniscient who will come to say how things are. Likewise, for a male colleague, they will never wonder why and how he got that position, while for female colleagues, insinuations are always left,” she added.
“I have received threats, I have received legal notices, and I have received extreme hate speech, but I don’t care. I remember that I had written an article about some statements made by a folk singer, who greeted the sun on stage in a Nazi manner in reality, and I had received extreme messages, threats to my life. But nothing happened. If you get scared by every message that comes, you need to change jobs,” Anastasia Giamali also added in her new television interview on ANT1.
